There are some great attempts here to make Sniper Elite 5 more attractive, including introducing some more memorable supporting characters than ever seen before. Eventually, Karl contacts members of the French resistance before uncovering a secret Nazi plot – Operation Kraken – which he must both investigate and ultimately destroy. It’s about a year after the events of the fourth game, and most of the major events take place around D-Day in France. The US Rangers have tapped Karl to assist in weakening the Axis defense. Sniper Elite 5 continues to follow hero sniper Karl Fairburne a year following the events of Sniper Elite 4.

It’s easily the best the developer has put out, but it’s also an indication that the series is perhaps in need of a bit of a refresh. That being said, Sniper Elite 5 represents a major turning point for the franchise. Still, none feel as slick or as polished as Sniper Elite. They’ve dabbled in other experiences like Strange Brigade or even Zombie Army, the spin-off of this game. Oh, and the sniping feels pretty darn good, too.It’s been almost five years since we’ve had a new Sniper Elite game, and it’s safe to say it’s what developer Rebellion does best. While Sniper Elite 5 does have some issues, the core gameplay and design are so incredibly engaging and consistently responsive to the player, it very much stands as one of the better stealth experiences in recent years, and easily as the best Sniper Elite game to date. In fact, if we approach it purely from a design and mechanical perspective, even the somewhat less engaging combat and other fringe issues don’t really detract from the fact that it pretty much has achieved those lofty ambitions at this point. Thoughts- Sniper Elite has been steadily building up to greatness over the last few installments, and with this newest game, it comes as close to achieving that stature as it ever has been. The progression system feels bland and uninspired. It definitely needed a bigger budget cause the game lags behind in graphics. Bad- Story and writing are extremely underwhelming. Invasions are tense and a great addition. Each map is brimming with side content, optional objectives, collectibles, and more.

Great amount of freedom in how to tackle objectives. Level design is amazing (very similar to hitman). The gameplay systems are pretty impressive and the AI is pretty good. You can even invite a friend to help you on your mission with enhanced cooperative gameplay options. Based upon real world locations from France in 1944, the new game maps are the largest and most immersive in the franchise's history with the new traversal system offering players an even greater sandbox of options when it comes to taking out their targets. It's Karl's mission to take out the high-ranking Nazi officers and end Operation Kraken once and for all. Soon they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe: Operation Kraken. As part of a covert US Rangers operation to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany, Karl makes contact with the French Resistance.
